Booking conditions
The conditions that apply when you book and ride with Wheels on Fire.
A booking is confirmed once we have agreed the date, the tour and the number of riders, and any deposit requested has been received. Prices are per rider and are shown on the Tours & Packages page. E-MTB tours are quoted on request.
Full details of what each package includes — bike, POC helmet, knee pads, shuttle and pick-up / drop-off in the central part of the island — are listed with each tour.
It is mandatory that you are covered with valid travel and health insurance before booking a tour with us. Mountain biking carries inherent risk, and your insurance should cover off-road cycling and medical repatriation. We may ask you to confirm your cover before the ride.
Every ride is adjusted to your needs and skills, and we place you on trails that match the level you tell us. You are responsible for giving us an honest assessment of your experience and physical condition. Our guides may change or shorten a route, or ask a rider to walk a section, when they judge it necessary for safety.
You must wear the safety equipment provided and follow the guide’s instructions at all times.
São Miguel’s weather changes quickly. If conditions make a tour unsafe we will say so and work out an alternative with you — another route, another day, or calling it off. Deposit, payment methods and the cancellation terms that apply to your booking are confirmed with you in writing before any payment is taken. If you need to cancel, tell us as early as you can so we can offer the slot to someone else.
The bikes and gear we provide are maintained and checked before each tour. Normal wear from riding is expected and is on us. You are responsible for loss or for damage caused by misuse or by riding outside the guide’s instructions.
Mountain biking is an adventurous activity with a real risk of injury. By joining a tour you accept that risk. To the extent permitted by law, Wheels on Fire is not liable for injury, loss or damage that is not caused by our negligence. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Portuguese law.
Riders under 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these terms on their behalf. Please contact us before booking so we can make sure we have a suitable bike and route.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published at the time you book.
These terms are governed by the law of Portugal, and any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese courts.
